The Super Bowl was last night, and I figured you can’t have a consumer behavior blog and not discuss the Super Bowl.  My first thoughts about the Super Bowl when thinking about consumer behavior is how much this event should help our economy.  Ridiculous amounts of money are spent on family vacations, expensive tickets, and of course millions and millions of advertising dollars spent.  That is basically my broad view of the Super Bowl, I think it is a great event to get people spending money in our country.

Now to the commercials.  There were a few commercials I liked, some I hated, and many I just couldn’t help but notice whether I liked them or not.  I did notice a few that didn’t tell you what product was being sold until the end.  I assume this was to capture your attention.  Of course Bud Light seemed to dominate this year I’d say.

I also noticed sex appeal in a lot more of the commercials than I remember in the past.  Godaddy girls every getting on Danika Patrick each commercial break and telling viewers to go online to see more.  Though I thought the commercials were stupid, you couldn’t help but notice, especially since there were tons of them throughout the night.

And finally, the new product being introduced.  I remember a past Super Bowl when Cingular introduced their company and I didn’t even know what they were selling at first.  This year, it was the mobile TV.  There is a new portable television that allows you to watch television anywhere you are.  Though the company obviously spent millions on getting this product noticed, I don’t really see the need for this.  It’s just another monthly payment for a consumer to watch TV, which mostly everyone already is paying for at their house.  Though I’m sure sales will boom for a short period of time following the Super Bowl ads, I don’t predict much success for this product over time.
